With more available real estate than traditional media, these ads provide the perfect venue to showcase your product or service. A flashy video? Great imagery? This is the place to do it. The expandable ad runs in current ad positions and can include nearly anything you can think of: dynamic data, video streaming, polling, interactive games, and more.


Note: Expandable ads start contracted, then expand. Reverse Expandables begin expanded for 1 second, then contract.

ANIMATION/LOOPING:
Allowed. Unlimited looping within 15 seconds.
VIDEO:
Expandable: Allowed in the panel portion.
Reverse Expandable: Allowed in the panel portion AFTER the pre-expanded unit is completed.

Format: True Streaming. Progressive download available on click only
Length: 30 seconds max
File Size: 2.2 megs
AUDIO:
On click OR mouse-over. If on mouse-over, there MUST be a 1 second delay.The audio MUST stop when the banner is moused-off.

Length: 30 seconds maximum on audio served in conjunction with a video stream. Audio served independent of a video stream may be 15 or 30 seconds.
DATA COLLECTION:
If you wish to collect personal information within advertisements, those ad units will need to:
  1. Clearly identify your organization.
  2. Provide a direct link to your privacy policy, adjacent to the submit button.
  3. Clearly identify the purpose for collecting the information.
Additional disclosure may be required, depending on the type of advertisement. Please see your advertising representative for more information on required notices. Yahoo! will also label all such ad units with "ADVERTISEMENT".
CLOSE BUTTON:
Required.
HOT SPOT RESTRICTIONS:
Hot spot should be no more than 25% of the entire ad unit.
BORDER RESTRICTIONS:
Ads without a border MUST have a high contrast background color that does not mimic the color of the page it serves on.
FREQUENCY CAP RESTRICTIONS:
Expandable: None.
Reverse Expandable: 1 per user per 24 hours. On subsequent views, the unit will act as a standard expandable unit.
OTHER RESTRICTIONS:
The action that causes the panel to expand, MUST also cause the panel to retract.
  • Mouse over/mouse off: When a user passes a mouse over the creative, the panel expands; the panel retracts when the mouse is removed.
  • Click open/click close: The creative can be set to expand with user click; the panel retracts when the user clicks a clearly marked close button.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
Ads must conform to specifications outlined herein. Elements not meeting specifications will be returned for revision, which may delay the launch date.

Rich media ads must be submitted 5 business days prior to launch to enable thorough testing. Contact your Sales Representative for additional details. Creative submissions should include the following:
  • Advertiser name
  • Yahoo! Insertion Order number
  • Detailed trafficking instructions
  • Creative files
  • Alternate text (if applicable)
  • Linking URL
  • 3rd party tags (if applicable)
3rd party tags must be live at the time of submission to enable thorough testing before launch. For Flash ads, an alternate image conforming to the designated gif/jpg specifications must be provided for use in the event that the user's browser does not support Flash 6.0 and above.
YAHOO ADVERTISEMENT POLICY:
Advertisements cannot mislead the user. For example, they may not mimic or resemble Windows/Mac/Unix dialogue boxes, error messages, or the like.
  • Advertisements cannot resemble Yahoo! content. Advertisement must have a border.
  • Advertisements cannot contain graphics that simulate interactivity (i.e., drop down menus, search boxes, etc.) without that functionality actually existing. NO fake or simulated HTML interactivity.
  • Advertisements cannot mimic news headlines in design, tone, 3rd person sentence structure, or topic.
  • All advertisements will be reviewed by Yahoo! and are subject to approval by Yahoo! before placement on the site.
  • Cookies may not be set on the Yahoo! network except by parties with a third party ad serving agreement.
  • Yahoo! reserves the right to preserve the user experience of its sites, and reserves the right to remove any advertisement which is deemed annoying and/or harmful to our users at any time.
  • The sponsor of any advertising message appearing on the U.S. Properties is clearly identified either on the ad itself or, if the ad is smaller than an 88x31 button, on the resulting first level jump page.
